1993
First time in Mozambique
When in 1993, shortly after the Civil War, the first tourists arrived in Vilanculos, Mapapay family was involved with buying and selling fish in the big cities that every day was fishing in the beautiful sea of the Archipelago .
It is in this time that the first tourists express the wish to visit the beautiful surrounding islands of Bazaruto, Benguerra and Magaruque and Joao (John) with his fishing boat starts giving steps to show the natural beauty of these islands.
2002
Helder, Mapapay Founder
Since then Mapapay becomes a name respected and known throughout the region. With his son Helder, who becomes little by little, the engine of the company, Joao starts a real activity of transport of tourists, cruise to the islands, fishing games, and in 2002 the dhow (traditional boat of this area) is not’ longer sufficient to meet the demand from tourism.
2010
Mapapay groys
Today the family owns two boats and the professionalism, the seriousness and punctuality’ which has always shown to work very soon permit to be one of the best organizations of Vilanculos which organizes excursions to the islands. Joao and Helder are supported by Osvaldo, driver, friend, a man of supreme confidence that goes to pick up and drop off at the end of the day the tourists with the minivan to the hotel directly.
2012
Marina, a western view on Business
In January 2012 Marina, an Italian lady working in tourism since more then twenty years, arrives in Vilanculos and find in the family Mapapay an excellent partner to realize her dream of opening an incoming agency that provides services to tourists in the archipelago with local people serious and reliables.
2020
Tourists for all over the world
The long experience with an European demanding tourism, the “western” professionalism and her keen eye combined with the experience of African partners create an explosive combination that offers high quality services, without missing a wholesome joy, and happiness that are typical in this natural paradise.
